i work at a vet clinic and the cats they keep there for mousers really like sleeping on the dryer. put a towel or something on the dryer then turn it on low. then just make sure they're out of your room when you go to bed and keep the door closed. cats want to sleep wherever they think is the 'best place'. teach them that the best place is not your bed, but the warm, vibrating dryer.

I have 3 cats and I'm 8 months pregnant, and I honestly have to tell you I don't understand what the problem is with the cats on your bed once baby comes.
We have a bassinet and a nursery, complete with crib, etc. and tons of other baby play things that we don't want our cats in, so we're letting them sleep with us as a consolation. I don't know your sleeping arrangements, but you might consider letting them continue to sleep in your bed and just make sure that they stay away from all things baby. That will be transition enough, and much easier to enforce, since it's going to be pretty hard to keep them out of your room and enforce these new rules now.

Really you should have done this as soon as you found out you were pregnant as cats carry toxoplasmosis, a bacteria which is potentially very harmful to pregnant women and can cause miscarriage.
When I found out I was pregnant I started by shutting all the doors upstairs so that the cat could not get in any of the bedrooms, and if he went upstairs I brought him straight back down. We put some comfy cushions in the corner or the living room and put him on them at night before we went up to bed. He soon got used to sleeping on them and now doesn't even go near the stairs.

Why can't your cats keep sleeping in your bed just because you are pregnant. Cats are NOT going to 'kill' your new baby ... in fact, when I had my third child (my second died from SIDS) my cat SLEPT IN HIS CRIB watching him sleep, and if he 'stopped breathing' for even a few seconds, the cat would 'wail' until I came to see what was going on. Just let your cat's 'be cats' and do what they 'want' and you'll find that you'll have a much easier time of it when your baby comes ... the CATS will actually 'help you' because they'll know they're loved, and will just 'accept' this new, larger 'kitten' you bring home.

Build a (or buy) a large wooden box. Make it easy for them to jump in and out, and take the comforter or blanket they have been on, with their sent on it and place it in the box on the floor near the bed, but slowly each day move it a bit farther and farther away. Encourage them, by placing them in it once you've placed it there. Animals, especially cats tend to like a blanket and that is why they lay there.
Good luck and have fun with the kittens!

I say let them stay . But if you are dead set on getting them out wiht a nice transition i would put a different blanket on the bed and let them lay on that a few days ,move the blanket elsewhere for them to lay on and close your bedroom dor. They will eventually get used to it. It's kida of like a kid weaning them off of something. Good Luck !!!

I guess you could just make them a nice little place to sleep in another room and take them in there every night before you goto sleep and they will probably still come to your room but just work them away like that and eventually start closing your door a night or so a week until you close it every night and eventually they will learn. This might not be with out alot of meow cries and stuff...but it will work!

I dont understand why you dont just let the cats stay in your room ...i mean it will keep them away from the baby right??? Its easiest if you start having your baby in its own room from the very beginning! Having them sleep in your room interupts your sleep (every little noise you jump up) and of course your sex life! Get a moniter and put it by your bed! PROBLEM SOLVED!

you might want to start by taking a blanket (that you and hubby sleep with) and put it where ever you want kittys to sleep. also get them comfy cat beds.
you can start by putting it near the bedroom door and then every few days move it farther away until you are in ther new permenent spot.
and keep the bedroom door shut always. not just at night. they need to know that that room is off limits.
and just be careful and do it slowly because if kitty gets upset they are likely to start peeing on your stuff.
GOOD LUCK
AND CONGRATS ON BABY

Our cats do the same. I noticed that when it gets warmer somewhere else in the house or outside, like in the summer, that they tend to go to the warmer spots.
Try putting a heater in another room with a few "kitty" beds nearby (but not too close so they catch on fire), and see if they don't go to where it's warmer.
You'll also have to close your bedroom door, and try to ignore their "complaining', for a few days.
