I don't want to put 55 WPM on my resume if that's like bragging about a 2.8 GPA, so what's the general range?

It depends on what you are applying for. If you are applying for a secretary, 55wpm is way below average, however for most desk jobs, it is acceptable.

If you type 55 wpm you should put that. If you type less than 40 you shouldn't mention your speed. Wait til you are asked during an interview.

From a testing site:

"The average touch typing test speed is as low as 40 wpm "

Accuracy is important as well, if you know it.

I think that is good. I wouldn't be shy about putting that on there. I have a 60 and I think that is fast.
