How quickly everyone forgets the 2 time high school, 3 time NCAA, and 6 time NBA champion. (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988) Yes he won as many as Jordan. The media hates Kareem because he was very mean to them so they never talk about him. So young people don't know about Mr. Sky Hook. To this very day his skyhook is considered the holy grail of most unstoppable moves. He dominated Wilt Chamberlain head to head. He dominate Moses Malone head to head. Like I stated earlier the only reason he not talked about among the greats is because th Media and the NBA despise him because he was very anti white establishment. But his wife is white crazy ha?

I starting to realize people who don't know much about the NBA are always going to say MJ is the best because they really don't know anyone else and really don't care to know them. The media built this guy up so high that people don't even consider people Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Tim Duncan when all have achieve close to the same stats and some like Bill Russell, Kareem abdul Jabbar and Magic Johnson achieved much higher basket ball success.

let's call it a tie and say they were both great for what they accomplished on the court. i think it is unfair to say "this person is better than that because of this". a lot of these players were great in their own way and it is disrespectful to them to say that one was better than the other.

i frankly like magic johnson, but i'm not going to say he's better than everyone else because there were great players that were established before him and there were great players that came after him.

"Jabbar was the very best player I ever played against. I never played against Wilt or Russell, but I did face Jordan, Bird and Magic, and it was no contest" - Bill Walton, "Nothing But Net".

Jabbar was certainly better than Jordan. If there was a draft of every player in the history of the NBA, Jabbar would go way before Jordan did.

The sky hook was absolutely the greatest shot ever.

Jabbar won 6 rings, just like Jordan...the NBA was much stronger during Jabbar's career than during Jordan's... the NBA wasn't watered down with a bunch of high school players during Kareem's career.

Jabbar also won 6 MVP awards, compared to 5 for Jordan (the press hated Jabbar, but loved Jordan, so Jordan should have had a huge advantage here).

Jabbar won Finals MVP awards 14 years apart, a testament to his longevity.

Nike and Gator Ade do indeed pay millions to ESPN in advertising, in exchange for ESPN's promotion of Jordan as the "greatest player ever". But no one can really give a legitimate reason for calling Jordan the best ever. Believe me, I've tried to get an answer on that for the longest time. ("Because he won 6 rings" doesn't quite cut it).

Heck, when Jabbar was 39 years old, he made 1st team All NBA over Olajuwon...he kicked Akeem's butt all over the court, and now I see a lot of people calling Olajuwon the greatest ever at the center position. That's just flat out idiotic.

But you're correct, the media never liked him, and his six MVP awards were given quite grudgingly... that just shows how incredibly good he was to win the award that often in the face of all the media hatred (today, if you don't think Jordan is the greatest ever, you're called a "hater", but morons who use that word have no idea what genuine hate is).

Jabbar was better than Jordan, no question about it. The Bucks improved by historic proportions when he joined the team as a rookie, and they've never been anywhere near as good since he left...

He was the best player and leading scorer of the 70s, as well as being the 5th leading scorer of the 80s.

Kareem was also the greatest college player of all time...and he may have been the greatest high school player ever as well. He basically lost 1 game in high school and 2 games in college (UCLA was 88-2 during his 3 varsity years there).

Good job for recognizing Kareem's accomplishments, Sam! Jabbar was better than Jordan at every level from high school on up.

That's a difficult call to make because Abdul-Jabbar is a center. Centers ALWAYS take a lot of heat, for some reason. Whereas guards like Jordan find it easy to shine in the spotlight because they're faster, and have an easier time working outside the key where there's not as much pressure. I wouldn't necessarily say that one player is better than the other, but rather that each had his own terrific strengths.

It's kind of a meaningless question. Especially since they were such vastly different players.. I would probably take Kareem pre1980 over Jordan, and Jordan before Kareem post 1980. Good big men are hard to come by, whereas a team could get by just fine with someone "kinda like" Jordan, say.. Vince Carter.

Kareem....the most athletic big man ever, with the most dominant shot ever. The best big man to ever run the break. One of the smartest team players ever, who actually deferred to a younger Magic Johnson when the time came.....and went on to win 4 more titles. People easily forget, and unfortunately, Nike and the media still feed into the hype and marketing machine that Jordan was.

There is no argument, it's Kareem who was the best player ever.

It's funny because me and my dad were just having a conversation about some of the best basketball players in the NBA and he told how good Kareem was so I'm going to have to say Kareem! I'm not going to hate on Mike though, I've seen his work and he was a good player.

I would go with Michael Jordan. You know why? Its because he can be good on defense and offense. He also can dunk pretty good. He set so many records I forgot how many . Michael Jordan is better than Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

It`s like comparing apples and oranges. Kareem is definately the best center of all time, but Jordan had the greatest moves of all time. In my opinion Jordan is the best hands down, no questions asked.

It's not sooo clear cut I would say MJ but Kareem was awesome. He won at every single level and dominated. He even created his own shot. He would have won 4 NCAA's if freshman could play at that time. And in Milwaukee he was awesome with Oscar!
