About three weeks ago I was at cheerleading pratice and we were doing splits and I guess I did not strech long enough or I went down to far and ever body heard a pop noise but I just felt a sharp pain. I was told to go walking every day so could strech the muscle. How long do you think it will take to heal? Will I have o get physical therpy? The isn't as much pain as there was but Ican't do toe touches squats or handstands or really anything that requirs moving the leg a-lot. OHH.. And I have tried using the Icy Hot things. Will this problem be gone in the next 11 months.

Given adequate time and rest, most sprained joints or strained muscles will heal themselves. But severe tearing or complete rupture of the affected tissues usually requires surgical repair. And damage caused by a sprain can leave the bones in the affected joint improperly aligned, or the ligaments so stretched and weakened that the joint is particularly vulnerable to future injury.

I think it would be a very good idea to go see a physical therapist. The PT will help speed up the healing process and also make sure that you did not throw your pelvis out of alignment. In addition PT will help make sure that this doesnt become a chronic problem. Significant muscle strains (like the one you describe) are well known to re-occur in the future because scar tissue builds in place and prevents normal functioning of the muscle.

Take a pain medicine, i would use one for body aches. keep streching the muscle. Aternate heat and cold. If the pain worsens go see a doctor. If it is just a pulled or strained muscle it shoud heal in the next couple of weeks.

"Pulled Muscle" implies that for the period of a few type of muscular undertaking, you truthfully produced a small tear in a distinct muscle. The localized swelling that happens motives stress on nerve endings inside the muscle and ends up in the feeling of soreness.

That happened to me one March 20 years ago during Indoor Track season. I was stretching without warming up and I did a split and POP! (OOooow) I tore my hamstring.

I had to have physical therapy and after about 11 months I was better but that tear is something that bothered me for a good 4 years.

Hope you're better. I had to tiptoe around school and did NOT make it back to the team that year. (WIsh I had pushed through, but it was bad) BEST WISHES to you for healing and wholeness.

Peace.

as the above user stated above..going to a physical therapist or a massage therapist can help alleviate the pain location. but to be sure if its a torn or sprain muscle only a doctor can do that..so i would suggest you go see a doctor first. because if you dont, your injury could get worse, then the fear will creep up that you dont know whats going on because you didnt go to a doctor.

so thats my advice.see a doctor, and if its not a torn muscle, ask him about a massage therapist or a physical therapist and let one of them work on you and help your muscle.

i suggest going to the doctor, and getting that checked out. I sprained my ankle, or so I think, it happened last year, and i never went to the doctor but i might have to go if i start getting unbearable pains. You could have torn a muscle, hopefully not, but to be safe, doctor should be the answer....

if you heard a loud popping noise, it wasn't just your muscle. when you pull a muscle, they are sore for a very long time. but since you heard a pop, i would have your doctor check that out. you might have dislocated or moved something out of place.
