The Republicans had 55 Senators to the Democrats 44 Senators. There was 1 Independent. The Democrats now have 49 Senators and the Republicans have 49 Senators. There are 2 Independents.
How do those numbers reflect the same majority?

They may have the Majority in the Senate and the House, but when you have a dictator-like President who likes to circumvent the Constitution of the United States to better serve his own interests and political party. Having the slight majority they have, means nothing if you can't swing Republican Votes to get the 2/3's you need to override a Veto.
It's not an excuse, they are simply being polite and not coming right out and telling the President that the Veto button is not a Toy. Sadly, the public gave him that toy to play with, but since he had the Majority behind him until recently, he never had to use it.

What excuses? I hear reasons but not excuses. When they are unable to pass a measure I hear them very simply point out those who voted against it. That is hardly an excuse. It is a very credible reason. The GOP did not get everything passed towards the end either. Neither party has done very much for us. We make a serious mistake when we fall for the lines of one party or the other. There are far too many office holders, party members adn average citizens out there who place party above country. We must stop falling for the rhetoric and voting for those who will indeed serve this country.

Well I think they are discovering the hard way that a simple majority doesn't work. That you need good policy too! It also takes agreement, which they seem to have some disparity within their ranks.
What I think is most interesting is that they think they are a shoo-in for the President in 2008 and I think they will be majorly disappointed.

It's a slim majority. Not enough to over ride any veto's. Sorry the days of Rubber Stamping are gone. I'm sure when we win the white house we will get back to getting the country back in order.

The Democrats have to compete with our president and vice president to get things through, he CAN veto and he does veto things that he and his party do not like. they are in a dead lock and compromises are par for the course.
