You can, but you won't be the most comfortable in it.

There are various ways to raise the pH to 7.2 and all of them are fairly inexpensive. Only one will actually keep the pH up and that's 20 Mule Team borax. You can pick up a box of this at your local grocery store and add a couple cups to the pool. Double check the pH and add enough to raise the pH to 7.2-7.4 for maximum chlorine efficiency.

6.8 is on the acidic side. it may still be safe for swimming, but this ph will eventually damage pool filters, pumps, pipes, gaskets, swim suits, etc. if you have copper pipes, it will leach copper and turn blond hair a bright green! it will definitely irritate your eyes.

7.0 is neutral, so there is no corrosive effect at or near 7.0 Ph.
