I keep getting an error meassage, 'Registry was not comletely saved as some applications were still running" The PC I'm trying to save a back-up reg on( I'm testing the back-up 1st before I know it will work at a future date), is not online, has no cards, peripherals- except mouse & keyboard and all non system services are turned off in 'start up' from 'System Configuration Utility'. I realy need to restore the reg at a later date, can anyone please help ?

To backup the registry, you must export it. Click File/Export. Because the Registry is in use the whole time that the system is on, it can not be "copied".

You didn't indicate what operating system is on the computer but here is the Microsoft page on backing up the registry for XP
