Am I supposed to buy the book and pay for it there when I stand in line on July 20th at midnight?

At another bookstore (Borders) You had to reserve the book to go to the midnight magic, and pay for it there at midnight.

Been a little bit, but as I recall you didn't need to have the book reserved to attend. However, you couldn't get the book unless there were copies left over after all the reserved copies were gone. And it's one minute after midnight on the 21st that the book goes on sale, though the party begins late on July 20th. You'll be able to purchase any book (whether it's the first 6 Harry Potter novels, related to Harry Potter, or otherwise) or other merchandise during the party, and I think those with a reserved copy of HBP also got a special discount coupon for anything in the store. If I'm remembering that right (that it was just those with the reserved copies), then it will be that way again. If not, then it would be anyone attending the party.

Better to reserve your copy now so you know they'll have one waiting for you. You don't have to pay until you get it.

I went to the borders one last year I remember that the people that reserved their books got theirs first and if there were any left I think it went to them. Or maybe as you checked in you got to reserve it. Everyone had a number. Actually don't listen to this cause I really don't remember that well.
