Becky M and Sweet2Water have the math right, but it's not 8.12%. It's really just 8.1%, which would also make $0.90 when rounded to the next cent. Obviously, you can't pay a fraction of a cent.
$11.08*.081= $0.897 > round up to $0.90
By the way, we're assuming that $11.98 is what you spent after tax since you said it's what you spent. If the price was actually $11.98 + $0.90 tax = $12.88, then the 7.5% that Becky J said was right even though her math is typed wrong b/c she said 0.75 instead of 0.075 as the rate

all you need to do is use the equation for sales tax and then plug in the numbers.
Tax = Rate x Price
T = R x P
.90 = R x $11.98
Work: .90/11.98=.75
.90 = .75 x 11.98
sales tax rate is 7.5%

Becky M is correct. The tax is figured on the subtotal before the tax is added, so you must first subtract the tax from the total you spent, and then compute the percentage the tax is of the subtotal.
11.98 - 0.90 = 11.08
0.90 / 11.08 = 0.081227
0.081227 x 100% = 8.1227%

formula:
tax rate = 100 * tax / (total spent- tax) %
where
tax = 90cents = $0.90
total spent = $11.98
tax rate = 100 * 0.90 / (11.98 - .90) %
= 90 / (11.08) %
= 8.12 %

No to procure that incorrect... once you upload a + and a +, you get a + once you upload a - and a -, you get a - once you upload a + and a - OR once you upload a - and a +, you're commencing off the sign and subtract the two numbers and additionally you save the sign of the bigger quantity. to illustrate, -3 + 7 7- 3 = 4 7 is the bigger quantity, so 4 keeps to be helpful -9 + 5 9 - 5 = 4 9 is the bigger quantity, so the 4 keeps to be adverse
