You should educate yourself on what autism is and is not. Of all things to worry about you pick this. If this is how you feel about having a disabled child, then I hope for your child's sake he/she is not autistic because clearly you lack the fortitude to care for him/her. It seems, you're the one with the scary disorder.

One thing that might help is that the stats on the increase in autism are grossly exaggerated. They are comparing old stats which refered to severe autism to current stats which include high-functiong forms of autism such as Asperger's.
Probably 50 to 70% of all kids classified as autistic are high-functioning. Bill Gates is suspected to be autistic. Many suspect Einstein was autistic. I suspect maybe both of my uncles had Asperger's.
Also latter onset of autism, (when "your baby is normal one day, autistic the next") occurs in only 25% of all cases of autism.

I worry about this too. I am only 9 weeks pregnant. I think it's normal to worry, especially since Autism is more common than once thought.
Just tell yourself like I do.... You won't know until your baby is born and grows.... so it doesn't do any good to worry about it now. I'm sure you're not the only one that worries about your baby not being normal.
I hope that you do have a healthy, normal baby though- as I hope the same for my self.

Try not to even think of it. I do have a son with autism and life is great! Just always pay attention to things like "is my baby making good eye contact" and making milestones. If not, you can get help for your child early on. When you are a mom, there is always something to worry about. :)

I had those worries myself when I was pregnant, and throughout my childs first months of life. All I can say is to stay positive and watch any changes in your child and early detection is the best thing for a child with autism but hopefully your child will be fine.

It is a real fear that your baby will have more challenges in life than what you want for him or her. There is a lot more information available now and a lot more resources to help autistic children live fullfilling lives.
Autism isn't an overnight thing, a parent can start seeing differences fairly early on.

There are a lot of things that can happen to your baby after birth. All I have to say is relax, when your baby arrives you will love your baby no matter what happens. It's part of pregnancy to worry about those things. Now that I'm 29 weeks pregnant I'm not worried about if the baby is going to have any defects I'm worried about the PAIN.

Autism is not a scarry thing, trust me there are more worse things. Besides it is really not good to be stressing over silly things when your pregnant that stress can harm the baby. You should really try being more positive than paranoid.
