There is a way to repair this problem without losing all your info, you will just lose installed software like antivirus or office suite but not your music documents and pictures. insert winxp cd and when it boots from cd you have option either to repair or setup windows now, select setup now and it will scan for previous versions of win xp when it does it will then give the option to repair select that and it should start the repair proccess. if this doesnt work try setting up windows only but when you install windows creat a 2nd partition and dont fromat the hdd. then on your 2nd windows install under my computer you should see 2 hdd's one is your old windows and the other is your new. you should be able to access pics from here and then transfer them. for more info johntech12@yahoo.com

Ouch, seeing computer users in this situation always sucks. Are you running XP on that machine or have you been haunted with Vista?

If you can get you hands on a actual Windows install disks, you may do a repair install of Windows that should keep all of your data intact.

But I would want to see you have your memories backed up before you did this just incase....You could take your lappie to a local shop and have them save your images for you.

Good luck

I would take it to a computer shop, not a major retailer it will be pricey, but they should be able to hook up your hard drive to another computer and set it as the slave drive and retrieve your pictures for you. If this does not work you hard drive is probably shot and your pictures are lost forever. Remember with Digital photos you should always have a back up on CD or a jump drive in case something like this happens. Good Luck.

Try a data recovery service, they have ways to read data off the drive.

You might be able to recover some pictures?

You've just learned a very hard lesson.

Good luck, I'd be bumming if I lost all the pictures of my kids.

Do not take it to a repair shop. The person always puts in a new windows cd or just does something that makes all you pictures and music go away.

Unfortunatly that looks pretty bad...
This refers to your hard disk storage device...it looks to be either going bad or is bad...

only suggestions i could give would be:
1 try either you or a tech open the box and replace the cabling to the drive...
2 if that dont work then you'll need to find a data recovery company to get the picturs off for you...

What Hayden said. Take this to a computer shop and there is a good chance to recover your data.
