the two 512's are in two yellow slots i have two red slots(empty) also, can i put the extra 512 in the red slot or it wont be efficient also if the new RAM is from another brand and frequency ......my pc ....cpu 3.4 L2 mb intel . foxcone 945 intel chip. 2-512 mb RAM .Nvidia Geforce7300 GT

It sounds like you have dual channel RAM which has to be installed in pairs.

it sounds like ur memory is paired. u will need 2 512 mb. sticks to put in the 2 red slots, if u dont it will slow down speed

the two red slots are for a different type of ram so no.
red slots are for one type :yellow for another.
next time you post a question like this would be nice to know your mother board.

not all memory has to be in pairs in my laptop i have a 1gbDDR2 and a 512DDR2. in two slots.all this pair stuff is now cobblers with todays pc's.

NO. the slots are for different types of ram One is probably ddr and the other is ddr2. I THINK you can mix them if they fit properly but you will slow down your board. and i don't know what it would do to your stability. I wouldn't do it.

Maybe the red slots are for video memory, assuming that you have a newer motherboard.
