Do ya'll think that there is an age associated with the harry potter series? I'm 16 and my mom seemed surprised the other day when I said that I liked Harry potter, and asked me if I thought that I was too old for it. What do ya'll think? Is harry potter for little little kids?

I started reading Harry Potter at 14. I still read it and I'm over 18 now. I kind of wish this book started out as a young adult series. Tell your mom you're not too old; it's not just for children, people of all ages read the books and most can understand it better as they get older. There are themes in it that every age group can relate too, especially teens. I love Harry Potter books, I hate the movies though because too many small children, who are too young to either read or understand the books come see the movie and don't pay attention or ask questions while I'm trying to watch the movie because they have a short attention span.

OF COURSE NOT.I am a fan of Harry Potter and I am a teenager too. Please do not think I am partial but the book is not just some wild fantasy that will just impress kids. You can actually get a lot of knowledge reading the book.Almost in every chapter there is a hidden moral -penned down really beautifuly by the author-that will be applicable in your daily life.Real wise thoughts from some of the characters you know! And the vocabulary used by J.K. is really nice that you will actually improve your English. Also it boosts up your imagination and you will start thinking that if a person can imagine so much, then so can I.I mean you might get inspired to try a hand as a writer. Many young authors have become successful by the inspiration they have got by reading such books.

No way! Even adults love to read those great books. You're certainly not too old for Harry Potter. Great fantasy like Rowling and Tolkein can be enjoyed by all ages.

Well, technically I'd say the age associated is 11 to 17 years of age as Rowling's main character goes through those ages in the series. In actuallity, the books are open to all ages. Especially since those kids who were eleven when the books first came out are now in their twenties and folks in their fifties and above have gotten into the books.

Tell your mom that I am 50 and I'm a published author and have a masters degree and I'm not too old for Harry Potter.

Oh, and mention my mother, who is 78, and still enjoying them, too.

You might also mention that Senator Enzi and his wife (R-WY) are also great fans.

You do not have to outgrow Harry Potter. Older fans just don't get into costumes and go to midnight release parties (they may go with their kids who are wearing costumes, but they are there as parents and so disguise the fact one copy of the book is for them).

Hmmmm. You should ask her when she outgrew Elvis, the Beatles, and Star Trek.

My wife is 34 and I am 39. We both love the books. Some "children's fiction" would be better described as young adult fiction. The later Harry Potter books would fit in that category.

Another series of children's/young adult books you might like are the "His Dark Materials" series by Philip Pullman.

A lot of adults even read it, even many that have no kids. Is No offense, but she obviously doesn't know that much about Harry Potter. Has she read any of them herself?

And no, I'm not even a fan. I read the first one, thought it was ok, and that was it. So it isn't bias on my part. They are books, and generally thought to be very well written ones. What's the difference between reading that and anything else?
