In some states you can go to the court house in the county they lived or he/she lives now and get a divorce packet. You fill out everything yourself (not complicated unless children or alamony are involved) and it's usually a lot cheaper than actually obtaining a lawyer. I'm sure it varies from state to state though so you'd need to do some research and make sure it can be done under the laws of the state(s) you're in. Give your local courts a call and they can give you more info.

A 'dissolution' s' Main expense, not including attorney fees, are do to the differences that the parties 'refuse'to cooperate and/give in to. If your bf and his ex are 'amicable'...the most inexpensive way to do this is: If they've been married for less then 5 years, have no children and/properties to be seperated, have them file a Summary Dissolution. This way, the only out-of-pocket expense is the filing fee. If they however do have children and have been married longer, etc ... a Dissolution of Marriage can also be done without an attorney "if" both parties are agrience and the properties, [personal, etc} have and/already been distributed. Please check local Laws pertaining to dissolutions as the length of time changes from state to state. good luck

Try getting the paperwork from a Legal Forms office. They will even type out the paperwork that you need to file with the court. If his x is in another state but he has an address for her he can have her Served with the papers. don't know how much forms are for your state but here in FL it costs about $100 for the forms and then you have to pay for the court costs to file which here was $367. Also, try calling the County
Court Division. They can tell you the exact amt for the court fees to file. Been there---Done it Twice---- Hope this helps.

You can do it on your own. Go to the clerk's office-get a sample Complaint and all the required affidavits. Pay the filing fee and Service fee. As long as she doesn't object, it will go through as an uncontested divorce. pay court costs and it's over.
