I'm going to be an intern for an assemblymember. I've seen some of their attire and it seems pretty casual, but I'm not sure and today is my first day. Is it alright to wear jeans? (maybe not on the first day, but maybe on a later day?)

If the overall dress seems to be pretty casual, then it should be fine. I would suggest that, on your first day, asking your superior if it's ok for you to wear jeans and any other questions about dress code that you may have.

I would strongly advise against that. Jeans are far too casual for your first day. You need to make a good first impression, and jeans will not do that. At a later time, if the office supervisor tells you it is alright to wear jeans to work, then you can.

Yes, but you should buy and wear trouser jeans to the office. Because it has the look of pants but has the style and feel like jeans. Just wear a nice blouse, jacket, and heels with the jeans to give a professional approach. For example:

I don't think so. While jeans have become rather commonplace and are often seen as the "new casual", if you want to make a good impression overall, dress appropriately. An internship can open tons of doors for you later, so you want to be seen as someone who has themselves together and knows how to present themselves.

Think of it this way, as an intern for an assemblyman, you're not just representing yourself, you're representing them to others.

Even for a later day, jeans would not really be appropriate. "Casual" in business may extend to chinos or khakis, but rarely to jeans, unless it is a volunteer office. If you have contact with the public, you want to present a better image than jeans.

sure just add a blazer or suit jacket and nice top just as if you would with slacks and it will look casual but nice. And had a pair of high heels and you'll be dressed for work or a night with the girls. and if they don't like they would always comment .. i would appreciate if you didn't wear jeans.. but it should be good.

Most offices have a jeans policy. Usually Fridays. Don't wear them your first day, yet do ask for a office policy information and ask when and if you can wear jeans.

for a first day? i think slacks or a skirt would be the best thing to wear, save casual for later because a first impression means everything.

As long as you dres it up with a dress shirt or something...preferably wear dark jeans, they look more preofessional, you would rather be too dressy than too casual!

I think you should wear something pretty simple that is not to dressy and not to casual and then you see how people dress
