Believers of socialism, as with any other -ism, by necessity feel that their's is the only proper way, and anyone who disagrees with them just needs to have their eyes opened. They believe in their creed, ignoring it's flaws as well as the positives of opposing viewpoints. She need not be poor, she may simply be a wide-eyed idealist, or an angry, bitter rebel. Or maybe she's just thick as a brick. hard to say.

I remember the morning in high school law class when Michelle declared that "people who make generalizations are stupid". It was super-funny, and it was the only time I've ever seen a black person blush.

As far as you classmate is concerned, I would only assume that she believes that socialist tendencies are the inevitable result of sufficient education. If you and your classmates are under thirty years old, I'd also assume that you have as yet insufficient life experiences to make such sweeeping statements.

I guess Hitler was educated then;

(When I first read this quote I was certain it was Hillary. I was wrong)

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." --Adolf Hitler

(Speech of May 1, 1927. Quoted by Toland, 1976, p. 306)

Some will argue that if you are against socialism then you are against Social Security, Fire Dept, Police, etc. and this is hogwash. Of course everyone agrees that we need these programs in order for our society to work. What we don't need are increased welfare, healthcare and other free programs for people who would love to just sit back and abuse the system.
So, in answer to your question, it does not mean she is poor, it may mean that she is simply a member of the Socialist Liberal Party.

No but it is safe to assume that you are neither in a class nor was this statement ever made.

It would be more apropos for you to simple make anti Liberal statements like, Jesus made up the Sermon on the Mount he did not even have a link to prove it was true.

Go Team Bush Go

Its not enough to be educated,Socialism is superior to Capitalism as can be easily shown by the experiment with Russia, How is Russia now, worse or better? It is worse, the experiment is already done.And let me tell you that Russia was not Socialist, it was a planified economy, that´s all.
Make a comparison about El Salvador or Honduras ( colonies of USA, and Cuba).

I think she meant ..."anyone who isn't in favor of socialism is not educated IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM"

Clearly, she is a product of our socialist run public school system. Yet another example of how it fails and an argument in favor of a private system.

Confront her and ask her to explain why all intelligent educated people should be socialists. I'll bet she just said that on impulse and has no argument to back up her statement.

BTW, there are poor and rich socialists. Just look at Hollywood.

I am quite educated, and anti-socialistic. Socialism is nothing more than Communism in disguise. Maybe she is the one that is un-educated, tell her to study history, and see what socialism does to countries
