I don't have a problem with women working, but its leaving the next generation behind. Children are spending their days alone, babysat by TV or by their teachers. They're learning their morality by watching TV and playing video games. Parents assume that schools are taking care of it, and schools assume the parents are. Both parents come home from work too tired to spend much time with their kids, so the children aren't getting as much personal attention as they would if only one parent was working. What do you think is going to happen to them?

Okay. What I mean is not that women working is ruining the children. I mean that children being alone all day while both parents are working full time is bad for them. Who are children going to learn from if their parents aren't around?

there is nothing wrong with women working. There are things much worse than having a working mother that kids could have to deal with.

Yes, not because of the women working per se. I try not to put a general header on working moms. But the WORKING PARENTS of small children who spend long hours, and weeks at work do affect the overall society. Too many preschoolers are at daycare early in the morning to the dinner hour. Too many school-aged children are fending for themselves. The whole lot of them are watching too much TV and playing too many video games.
Sometimes, people have to work to pay bills. These people try to take jobs that work around the kids. (At least the ones I know) But I know far too many couples who work more to have more stuff. And it is my honest opinion that their kids are suffering for it. Maybe their kids wouldn't need ten new toys every weekend if their parents talked to them. Maybe their families wouldn't need 3 weeks on vacation to reconnect if they saw each other, had meals together, played together.
It disturbs me, it really does.
Don't even get me started on the parents who let their kids roam around doing whatever -- just so long as they leave them alone.

While this might be the case in some situations, I think generalizing that all children are not properly cared for is not accurate. Further, it is not only working parents that ignore their children. I know many stressed stay-at-home moms who sit their kids in front of the TV while they try to do housework or other things.
The key is to establish appropriate care and activities for your children while you are at work. They do exist, parents need to seek them out.
Many parents work because they need to. Other parents who choose to work are helping their children by providing for them and teaching them how to manage having a family and working. While I respect what stay-at-home parents contribute to society (our school systems would be a loss without them!), all parents who work outside of the home our contributing to our society as well.

At the time of the Great Plague, they thought it would destroy the next generation, but they grew up alright, worked, painted pictures, composed music and wrote poetry. They had smallpox; we have AIDS.
What causes situations like ours are market forces. We are told they are good for the economy, so mothers have to choose whether to devote time to their children, or provide better food, better clothes and better housing. Market forces will not pay the father enough for him to support his wife as home-maker. Employers don't care, they know they can now employ the mothers for a lot less money than their husbands, and anyway, they know society will blame the mother,

I think this does have an impact. I feel parents are working too hard and trying their best but there is only so much you can do in one day. Kids are being shortchanged by not getting enough quality time with their parents in order to be socialized and taught by them. I think we see the results of this in the drug use, criminal activity, the instant gratification they want and the lower basic skills in schoolwork. they face a bleak future and our culture will pay the price-so sad.

You can't generalize about "working women." Many such women are more educated and responsible than average, set a much higher standard of behaviour and achievement, and provide a higher level of long-term security for their families.
