I am working (very beginning stages) on a musical comedy based on the myth of Ganymede. It is a gay-themed musical. I am wondering if there are any theaters that produce specifically gay musicals or gay plays? Having an actual theater to write for would really help the process.
All replies are appreciated.

The New York Musical Theater Festival each September stages about 40 new musicals. About half of these have "come in over the transom," i.e., submitted by playwrites without any backing or interest. The shows are put on by professional actors but with minimal props and a smaller orchestra. Most casts are made up of 5-10 members. When I went last year, there were several gay themed plays, and they were well received. Several of the shows go from the festival to regional theaters, and a few lucky ones get long-term off-broadway gigs.(The most famous one is the musical "Altar Boys.")
