Let me clarify: it's not gays I object to, it's musicals.

You are naturally stupid, we are naturally wonderful.

(and better dancers too!)

I am surprised no one gave an obvious answer.

Gays are no more "keen" about musicals than straights (there would be no musicals if only gays enjoyed them, just not enough of us).

Gay men in particular aren't as hung up on what is acceptable behavior for men, so aren't likely to deny liking them. Same applies to any of the cliche activities that are seen as gay (disco, art, design, fashion, etc etc). If you aren't concerned what others might think of your tastes, then you aren't likely to reject those things you might enjoy (or at least try).

Another thing to consider, gays have more disposable income (most do not have children to support, so more money to spend) to enjoy those things they enjoy, and for some its musicals and disco.

I believe that it's because the musicals are so romanticized. It is the romance and the beauty of love that attracts a lot of the people I know to musicals, and they're not all gay. I think that your question is just a stereotype. I happen to know a gay person who is very much into the "Metal" rock scene. Just because the person happens to like musicals or disco, doesn't make them "stupid".

Broadway musicals represent a full spectacle on stage. There is acting, singing, dancing, costumes, make-up, and a story that can vary from sappy ("Hello, Dolly") to macabre ("Sweeney Todd") to farcical ("Spamalot") to challenging the social order ("Show Boat"). The music simply adds to the themes of these shows and makes them more accessible and entertaining. They keep your attention, even when the topic is a little heavy, like anti-miscegenation laws, or they can take some of the sting out of watching a string of murders in a barber chair.

Disco was just good to dance to, in the same way as early rock-and-roll (with its pervasive 1-4-5 chords) was also designed to get a body moving.

There are other things that gay people are known for, too, such as fine cuisine, art, etc., but just because we are KNOWN for it doesn't mean that certain things are exclusively gay. Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein were well known to be straight. So were Jerome Kern and Frank Loesser. But Stephen Sondheim, who grew up next door to Hammerstein, is gay. Matthew Broderick is straight and Nathan Lane is gay. If you paint everything with a broad brush, you find that you overlook the nuances and specialties of life.

And besides, I know several gay people who abhor musicals.

Stereotyping is stupid. I'm gay, but I can't stand disco or musicals. At all.

Oi! Some things are just part of the kooky crazyness of life. I think that's a stereotype and not anything really to do with being gay. I happen to like musicals but that's just me. I like music even though I can't sing worth ****.

The same reason straight people like them, they are entertaining. When I go to watch a musical the majority of the people are straight people and usually with their children. Here's a better one why did the straight person cross the road? You will have to talk to John Travolta about disco though, lol

Don't put me into that group! I hate musicals and yes I'm gay. If having to like them is required for membership into the fraternity, hell, my pink card was revoked years ago! But no, they are not naturally stupid for liking them - to each his own; asking such tripe is a different story. Just because you don't like them does not mean that the entire effin universe has to hate them as well. That's called being egocentric otherwise known as your head stuck up your *** syndrome.

Cheers.

Sounds to me like you are making an inference here.

Naturally stupid? That would be you.

Edit: Well then, I'd have to take my statement back. I hate musicals too. But I'm gay and I luv my peeps.
