The easiest/cheap way is taking a train to one of the London airports, and fly from there.
The fastest way is to take a flight from Southampton.
The surface travel way is to take the train or coach to Harwich and take a ferry from there.
If you take the ferry from Southampton you can only go to France, and you will have a much longer overland travel on the continent.

I think there are cruise ships calling at Southampton as well as Amsterdam, but I have never heard of anyone buying a ticket for just that part.
A last option, only feasible if you are an experienced sailor, try to hitch a ride with one of the freight-ships. You will need to show a current proof of employment, as well as having all paperwork for visas and so on.
