Okay i got my ipod for xmas and it is working fine but last night i plugged it in to my laptop to put on some more songs and it didnt make the usual "bing bong" sound it makes when you plug something in at the usb. I opened itunes and my ipod wasnt there but on my ipod it was charging. Ive tryed unplugging and putting it back in loads of times, restarting my computer and everything i can think of any help please.

I have had this happen a couple times. Just hold down the center button + the menu button or play button for about 6 secs. This will basically restart your ipod and restore it back to normal. No you won't lose any songs in the process.
The Apple website is very helpful too, they have bulletin boards to answer all sorts of questions, plus some common answers to FAQs such as this to help you out right away. Also, are you up to date on your software?

Try these links if what I stated above doesn't help:

I'll keep my suggestion simple. If you have more than one usb port try plugging it in to a different one. I have found that they can be temperamental sometimes. And make sure the connector is firmly seated in the bottom of the iPod and in the usb port.

Try to update Itunes. It sounds like theres an issue with your charging port, although it may be charging. After you have done this take it to apple.

try restoring the settings on your iTunes program to default...make a note of any that you have changed to personal preference (sound check etc.) reset them then plug the iPod on to see if it works...DON'T do a full system reset as this may lose all the tracks on your iTunes files

your speakers may have been off so the bing bong sound wouldnt happen. try waiting longer next time to ensure the transfer is complete
