Has to be Magic Cottage. The atmosphere is incredible. You end up both loving and loathing the house.... though personally its magic captured me and wanted the house SO much!

I enjoyed the Ghosts of Sleath and The Magic Cottage. Rather less gory than some of his other books. I'm reading The Secret of Crickley Hall at the moment, and so far it's OK, but not one of his best. Fluke was also rather interesting - a bit of a departure from the norm.

To be honest, it depends what kind of book you really like. I think Ghosts of Sleath is a good book, but i prefere Domain as my favourite. Something to do with surviving a nuclear holocost, and then finding out it was just an accident that it all started just seems about right. Typical.

All his books are excllent and it's difficult to choose his best novel. The Fog was the first one I read and it's stuck in my mind as being pretty good. I also loved Moon... actually I can't really pick one.....

By the way Dune was by Frank Herbert, not James Herbert (and it's Frank who is dead, not James).

Reading the Secret of Crickley Hall at the moment and it's a good one, The Magic Cottage was a good one to. All are pretty good though.

Yes, I've read most of his novels.

I think the best one so far was Once (I've read it twice and have got it put away ready for my holiday in September to read again), followed closely by the Secrets of Crickley Hall.

Oh, and another one I couldnt put down was the one about the photographer that took a picture of Nosferatu (I think it was called Creed)

Love his stuff! I'm torn between Fluke and The magic cottage I've lost count of how many times I've read those books.

That's a difficult question as all his novels are good, I'd go with Magic Cottage if I was pushed for an answer. And he isn't dead, he's alive and well living in Brighton with his family.

I've only read one of his and that was The Secret of Crickly Hall and I was really impressed! It gave me the willies and was brilliantly written. Will definately be looking at some of these listed and reading them!
