I'll be more specific. I don't believe it's the thermostat, as the a/c continues to TRY to cool the space even as the temperature rises. It's as though the a/c "runs out of gas". The fan contunues to blow, but no cooling happens. For some reason, the a/c is unable to cool, yet because the thermostat is telling it that the room is too warm, it keeps blowing indefinitely. Is it a freon problem? Is there some blockage that prevents the cooling? Thanks!

The technician just left. The system was short two pounds of coolant, causing the system to ice up throughout the day, preventing the system from cooling as the day went on. Overnight, the system would thaw, allowing it to work properly in the early part of the day. Thanks for your help, anyway.

It could be on a demand control switch installed by your electric company, for the previous occupant.

You may have another timer located elsewhere in the system. The blower fan is running, but the compressor is not. If it kept up all day long during the peak heat load, and cuts off right at 5pm, there is a timer somewhere. Contact the building manager and ask if there is a time relay somewhere else in the circuit. You may need to contact the HVAC company that services or installed the unit(s).
