Yes, YES, and yes. Every two weeks, my boyfriend and I have NO money. Sometimes we make it last, but many times it runs out. We are both still making our way in life; I'm in school (finishing a PhD) and working part-time, he's working and taking a managerial class. The little money we have rarely lasts and is only used for essentials. There are certainly no fancy clothes, meals, or any money spent on entertainment.
When pay day nears, we find very innovative ways to buy groceries. For example, we have a laundry room where people donate books for people to read while they are doing their wash. We often take a few of the newer ones to used book stores. We've sold clothes to used clothes stores, we've sold gadgets (last week, my radio had to go), CD's, we have a credit arrangement with this nice man my boyfriend knows at a small restaurant around here....we have even found stuff people have thrown out near the garbage bins which we've been able to sell to a place called "Cash Converters". We have even fixed stuff that was broken so we could sell it...
Soooo, yeah, for a day or two before "pay day", it's sometimes 'slim pickings'. Food just has a wonderous taste on pay day though. I appreciate *everything* so much more when I have to do without. It's a short-term situation toward a much, much greater good, so we usually laugh about it and otherwise just take it in stride :-).
Hey, and there are benefits. Couple examples: there is definitely no talk about diets in my house, we get plenty of exercise walking to avoid bus fare (we both have amazing figures), we can budget very little money amazingly, and it humbles us :-).
Thanx for your question Moon :-). Have a wonderful day too :-)!!!

I have been in that situation before, and it really does suck. So I usually leave AT LEAST $30 bucks in my bank account. If anything, I wouldn't care if I needed food, I'd just wait til I got home. The important thing there, is making sure I CAN get home. I don't have credit cards, so I depend on my bank account.
I never could understand how my Aunt would drive around with 4 kids and not even have a quarter to make a phone call. I don't get it. I fear being stuck somewhere, having no way to get home, so I have to have enough $$ to be able to take a cab at least!

Yes. I have been without a single red cent. Back when there was still a "float" on checks, I would purposely write a bad check to the grocery to buy food so I could eat.

Yes once. After being very angry, I was hungry and then was quite humbled.
Having been there, it makes us acutely aware of helping others who find themselves in that place of need.
Now? We always have a lot of money saved that is not touched so it never happens again.
Hmmm. Why do you ask?

Yes, I have been there and done that...
It was about 24 years ago, does that still count?
My husband and I were out of work and lost our home and we moved into my mom's garage to live with all our boxes and furniture and we slept in the garage and lived out of our dressers...
All our worldly belongings were all packed up around us in the garage...
And I do mean a real 2 car garage with no heat and no cooling...
We went in the house to go to the bathroom, shower, or eat, but otherwise, we lived in the garage...
One night I remember when it was really cold, we sneaked into the house to get warm by the fire...
It was a bad time in my memory...

I'm pretty lucky because I've never been in that situation. I have had a few times when I've been a little low on funds. But I've never been completely out of money.

Yes! I honestly only had less than a dollar to my name, and still had a week before I got paid. I had no choice but to borrow money from my dad.
