Their idea of role models are celebrity's and entertainers.

Many are holding their breath for Paris Hilton to make changes like she claim she would. And they look to celebrities for trends in politics (Rosie O'Donnell), Fashion, and economics.

Where are the Americans who think Hollywood and these joke "role models" are just fun to look at, but when you shut off your television you get back to your lives?

I'd say they are all over the place. Just like any country or culture, there are many sub groups and cultures in America, if not more so. Yes, there are those that follow Hollywood's every breath, but then there are many more for whom Hollywood is just an idle though and then the rest that really could care less. But since Hollywood's business is promoting itself to sell it's product... it appears to be the center of attention even when it's not.

I think the question should be are people superficial. The thing with hollywood is that is gives people an escape from the real world. When that real world is mundane or boring then it has even more attraction.

Paris heading back to Jail was given more coverage than the G8 Summit and that was in the UK media.

There are 350 million people in the US and it would be hard to label all of them in that catagory.

Many Americans are like that. They disgust me. People like Paris Hilton are the reason so many other countries hate us.. she's the perfect example of a rich, spoiled, waste of space.

Please know, though, that there are tons of americans who would be perfectly happy if paris hilton died tommorow. Most of us don't care, and many of us are disgusted by our own culture.

Unfortunately, yes. I find it so incredibly frustrating. I live my own life and don't give a rat's *ss about celebrities. This country needs to wake up and deal with reality or things will never get better!

My morals and values started at home. Entertainers happen to be in the lime light....some individuals start to idolize them. I look at them as entertainers who have a doubles lives...the one we see on TV and the person they are in their private lives.
