It depends on the age of the car. If it's a modern R-134 freon system, a complete evacuation and recharge is about $75-$100. If it's an older model still using R-12 freon, hang on to your wallet. The stuff costs an arm and a leg, and it can run into hundreds of dollars to evacuate and refill.

What a waste of money trying to put refrigerant in a system that leaks. Now tell me how could you possibly "think" the compressor is bad when you had nice cold air until the refrigerant leaked out. I don't think you are capable, and I know you're not qualified to repair whatever is leaking, draw a vacuum on the system and recharge it properly. Take it to a ASE certified AC technician to get it fixed.

This has become a pricey evolution, last time I needed some they wanted $80.

r 12, forget about it...

Its cheaper to retrofit the system, and will cost less in the long run.........
