When i Start up my PC, You Hear The Monitor Waking up, And Then The Tower Beeps Once, Then The Black 'Packard Bell' Screen is displayed. At this point absolutely nothing happens, My Hdd makes a few noises, but it's as if the pc has frozen, except i can't get it to work properly.

I Hope The Info I Have Given Is Usefull...

I Hope Someone Can Help Me :)

The hard disk is probably faulty (or, as others say, too full with XP stuff). If you have a floppy disk drive, stick in any disk and see if it stops trying to boot from that. If it does not, it would suggest a faulty motherboard. If it does, and hard disk is formatted as FAT, you need a DOS floppy to boot with - can be downloaded from Internet. This will allow to see if hard disk is accessible by typing C: (and you can see what is on the disk, how much free space and whether there is something that can be deleted) or scandisk on the floppy might recover the HD.

It sounds like the computer is stopping at the point where it begins to load the operating system (in your case, Windows Xp).

The easiest resolution to the problem is going to be to follow the instructions given by Packard Bell and run the restore disc to restore your computer to the original settings.

If that doesn't work, your next option is to take the computer to a qualified technician.

PCs generally outlive their usefulness in less than five years. If you want to stick with the computer that you have, you must upgrade your computer immediately in order to support XP or Vista.

Hard drives (even internal ones) are relatively cheap nowadays, so replace your tiny 10GB drive with one that is at least 160GB or more. (Back up your data first!) The XP operating system software will swallow 10GB like an appetizer and look for more room to install and run with spare scratch disk space. (Vista demands even more!)

(Side note: make *sure* the version of XP you are installing includes Service Pack 2 already, so that Windows Firewall is automatically turned on after installation.)

Your processor speed may be okay, but be prepared to upgrade your processor to a recent dual-core or quad-core version to keep your processor zipping along. Computer RAM is also cheap, so make sure you add as much RAM that will fit in your machine -- 1GB at least, 2GB or more is best.

Despite what others say, your Computer more than sufficiently meets the system requirements by Windows XP which are: 233MHz CPU, 64MB RAM, 1.5 HD space. My guess is its a hardware problem.

Try booting up with a bootdisk or CD. If that doesn't work. Enter your BIOS screen and try to turn on failsafe settings. Also redetect your hard drives see if they aren't broken or disconnected.

I would guess that XP is too much for your system. I don't remember the requirements offhand, but but your HDD must be running low on space after installation. I would suggest going back to ME or upgrading to a new computer.

This happened to me once too. Found out that my harddrive was on the verge of dying. My advice, buy a new HDD or a complete system format might just do the trick.

The reason it does this is because this unit does not meet the minum System Requirements to run Windows XP.
If memory serves me correctly you don't have enough Hard Drive Free Space or enough Ram.
