According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.
WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

The official ruling was a double murder suicide, it does not necassarily means it is true, but a lot of evidence points to maybe it was Chris. The autopsy report says that Chris Benoit had the brain of an 85 year old man with alczheimers disease. Please excuse my spelling. Do you really think that someone with such a damaged brain will not be suicidal even homicidal? But.... Here is the evidence against the situation. He seemed perfectly normal a few weeks before. All of a sudden he calls out of the ppv he was suppose to perform in because of "personal issues" now what do you think happened there. Now... The Bible incident..... Benoit was a born again Christian before he died. Dont you find it suspicious that the Bible's were next to every dead body. This seems like a well thought out set up. Too many unanswered questions to get the full story and will remain like that until more evidence comes. Funny thing is that I was in Georgia that same exact week and was near the neighborhood Chris Benoit lives in. Kinda spooky but to get back on subject, the full story will never be known even with the text messages sent to 3 other people

Police: Wrestler Killed Family, Himself
POSTED: 8:39 pm EDT June 25, 2007
UPDATED: 9:17 am EDT June 26, 2007
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday on the bodies of pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son who were found dead at their secluded Fayette County home in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.
"We are not searching for anyone outside the home at this time," Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope said.
Investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three different rooms of the house on Green Meadow Lane, in a subdivision off a gravel road about two miles from Whitewater Country Club.
The autopsies were scheduled to be done at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in DeKalb County.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."
Pope said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details about the deaths.
Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "The details, when they come out, are going to prove a little bizarre."

It's very sad. I would have never thought he would have done this either. To kill yourself because you're distraught is one thing -- horrible, but it's somehow different than killing your family then yourself. I just never would have thought him capable of it. I pretty much stopped watching wrestling a few years ago. But I did catch the tribute to Eddie a while back, and had I known I would have watched last night's tribute to Chris. I heard this morning on GMA about it, and they said in the past few months other wrestlers have died. Who else?

I saw it this morning and the only thing that convinced me it was real and not another WWE stunt was that it's posted on the Yahoo! main page. The latest news is that no gun was used, but detectives want total confirmation from the M.E. before releasing any more news. Autopsy reports should be out later today, and toxicology reports will be out in 1-2 weeks.

Well, he obviously is a murderer. I used to watch wrestling, and liked him at times.
It is shocking news, but it looks like he killed his wife and kid. THAT will be what I think about now when I hear his name, and not his wrestling.
I hope he rots in hell. There is no excuse for doing something like this.
