mac book internet settings?

how do you change the internet settings on mac, whenever i close it i always sign off of aim, how can i fix this so i stay connected?

Go up to your Apple upper left and single click it when it opens, click on System Preferences, when it opens select Network.
Now which ever way you are connected must be selected and highlighted with the little green dot.
It must also be at the top of the list.
If it isn't single click it and drag it to the top of the list.
