Because that's what human race is defined most by nowadays. Some people might say God but in reality even God is a source of hope for them accept it or not! Wisdom and knowledge is sliding right by but all the human race is more interested in knowing whether their future is bright or not or hope for the best!

Mother Earth.
Why? We were born here...on Mother Earth...
Mother Earth supports us...bares all our weight on top of her...
She gives us food....from her own heart...and from her own hands...
She gives us water...with her own self...
She gives us such beautiful creatures and plants...
It is so beautiful.
How can we not be the children of Mother Earth? All those qualities I've mentioned are definately of a Mother.
We are Mother Earth's children...
And Mother Earth is God's child.

Because we are made of the same substances as everything in the universe... Plus we depend on it for everything we need to survive or be happy. The universe never even after death forgets about us!!!! =)
