Does anyone one know if Verizon DSL is compatible with Airport Extreme? Their online rep. only said that I may need a new modem and wasn't very informative.

Thanks

I currently have a wired router (Linksys) but will probably be buying a laptop soon so the wireless side seems more appealing.

I have a Mac mini and an IMac that I just purchased in the fall of '06. The modem that I'm using is a Westell 6100. A rep told me yesterday that it should be compatible. Thanks for your answers!!

as a verizon rep....I'm sorry about your experience.....

OK lets get this answerd....

If you DSL modem has a wireless feature then YES....

Airport extreme is for connecting to a 802.11b/g wireless network. you may need to check on this based on how old this is???

Verizon wireless DSL modem is 802.1b/g compliant...

802.11b/g is an industry standard and all wireless equip should list to what standards there devices are compliant with.

at a minimum the extreme card "should" atleast connect to the modem at 11mbs..... which is way more than what the dsl service you have....

Not knowing on how old this airport card is... you may need a new card.....

If your dsl modem is not wireless you may need a new modem...

So what the rep said "could" be true I don't know what equipment you have verizon has 2 dsl modems. 1 has wireless features and the other one dosen't..

If you see an antenna on the back...it's has wireless capability

Anywho hope this helps

It really is frustrating when you get these guys.
All Internet Service Providers furnish there users witha MODEM. next there are 2 different types of ROUTERS available WIRED amd WIRELESS The Airport Extreme falls in the last group of being a Wireless Router.
Many of these routers will afford the user to use it as a wired or wireless router again the Airport Extreme falls in this category.
The technology is the same worldwide and the Airport Extreme Base will work with any of them.
