I had a coupon for buy one sub, get one of equal or lesser value for free with the purchase of a 32 oz drink... i tried to get 2 subs, i ordered a cold cut one, and i tried to order a steak and cheese one... the lady told me i couldnt, it was only valid for cold cuts... no where in the fine print did it say that, then she pointed to a hand written sign saying that coupons can not be used on anything with steak, chicken or bacon... is this allowed? they can make their own rules?

Yes, the franchises are all separate. As long as they post where you can see it before you purchase it, they can change the coupon rules. They can decide not to accept coupons at all. I would just let them know you will be going to another Subway who will let you by the more expensive sandwich with your coupon.

Subway is a franchise. One owner can own several stores under the same franchise. He can either accept company coupons or even make up his own. I hope that explanation helps

Yes, they can make up their own rules about coupons because some Subways have different owners; different owners, different rules.

If the coupon says something like "participating restaurants only", then yes they can decide whether they want to accept it or not. I'd contact Subway hq directly to be sure. http://www.subway.com
