If the tiles have a 'vinylized' surface, they can be washed as you would wash a wall, using a general purpose household cleaner. If they are the fibrous acoustic type with only a white surface, they will absorb water like a sponge if you try to wash them. Any amount of scrubbing will remove the surfact and you will be left with brown spots. Dust can be removed with a vacuum cleaner, but if these are stained (as from smoke) your only avenue is a coat of paint.
