I'm not sure how much science backs up this theory, but I believe it to be true. I think it might be because of the natural sugar in the OJ. Anyway, when I was pregnant with my daughter I had gestational diabetes, so I had to have weekly non-stress tests done. The NST's just involve hooking up monitors to my belly to check the baby's movements and heart rate. Whenever my daughter wouldn't move I could usually get her to move by calling my husband on my cell phone and placing it on my belly so he could talk to her. 99% of the time it worked. On one occasion it didn't, so the nurse gave me some orange juice to drink. It did the trick. From then on I would eat an orange as my afternoon snack before going to my NST and I never had a problem with her moving.
You will notice in the next few weeks that your baby will become more active and as he/she grows, you will feel the movements more. It's really an incredible experience. Best wishes.

Orange juice, and other juices, have a high sugar content and that's what gets the baby moving, so yes if you drink it right before the ultrasound, chances are good the baby will become very active while you are lying down on the table during the exam.
All the best to you and baby!

Do not break your water! Talk to your doctor. If it goes too long they may do a C-section or something, but I strongly urge you to do nothing to make the baby come before it's ready, or the doctor does a C-section or induces labor. Breaking your water can cause problems with the delivery! Doing anything to cause yourself to go into labor is dangerous to you and to the baby. I've had 3 children and I understand your being anxious. It sounds like what you're experiencing with the back pain could be labor. With each of my children the labor and delivery were different. With my son in particular it was a lot of back pain. Talk to your doctor! And best wishes for a safe and speedy delivery and a happy, healthy baby! :)

Being a RN I have patients who are diabetic and when they have low blood sugar we give them orange juice. That normally always does the trick. So in other words, yes it will make the baby very active. I can't wait to feel my baby (I am 11 weeks pregnant)
You can also drink a cup of caffeine tea or soda once a day, so do that and the baby will give you a show.

Bub will most likely be squirming away as the ultrasound normally bugs them. It dosen't hurt them but imagine your having a nice sleep and someone keeps coming up to you and massaging you. My bub was squirming so much the poor doc was having a hard time getting the pictures.
A cool drink (in antenantal clinics) is what they will use to wake up bubs in tummy if they want the bub to be more active so a cool drink of any kind will probably help.
Just remember sex results can be wrong. Good luck!

Orange juice has natural sugar in it. It is the sugar that is making the baby move around.

Yes, it does. One method doctors will give pregnant patients to ensure that the baby is moving as it should is to drink a glass of OJ (or any juice, really) and lay down.

The baby will generally move after you eat something. It elevates your blood sugars and get him/her moving. I have Gest. Diab. and the dr. likes me to have a snack before ultrasounds and nst's so he's active. I also find the baby moves more after I drink something really cold.
Congrats on your baby and enjoy the ultrasound!

No...they do what they want in there. Nothing will make them show who they are. That and the technician has to be able to do alot of measuring. Pausing the screen to measure the size of head, legs, ect. Alot of movement sometimes takes the tech. longer to get good shots. Just make sure you have a full bladder. Having a full bladder pushes the baby forward making a clearer picture.
