It's easier to pick up on. And when they first say it, you say it over and over to get them to say it more. They figure they are saying something right, so they keep saying it.
Babies are too cute!

both of my girls said dada first as well. I believe that it's easier for a baby to say the d sound like in dada. It doesn't take as much facial/mouth muscles to say the d's as in the m's. Just my two cents, but that's what I think. Good luck.

It has nothing to do with who the baby likes better--it's simply that "dada" is easier to say than "mama," as any young father will tell you when his baby proceeds to call the dog "dada".

I have a limited knowledge of linguistics, but I think that the sound for Mama is universal for mothers, so even if they don't say it first, they know exactly what it means when they do and they all seem to agree so there you go!

The "m" sound is a lot harder than the "d" sound. Make the two sounds and pay attention to where your lips and tongue are - it takes a lot more muscle control to make an "m," so it takes longer for babies to learn to make that sound.

its easier to say da da than it is to say ma ma... But just keep in mind they aren't saying daddy first. They just cant make the mmmmm sound yet. Its just baby talk. I was upset when mine was saying da da when da da wasn't even around..
