Keep car in correct gear and take foot of accelerator as much as possible during driving, especially when going downhill or approaching traffic lights (when approaching traffic lights keep car in a lower gear and keep your foot off the gas pedal as when you do this the car does not use any fuel, also you will be using your brakes less so less wear and you won't have to wait as long at a red light).
Aim to keep revs below 2300 rpm, accelerate gradually and plan for the road conditions ahead.
Also, may seem strange but keep your cars exterior and interior clean as this can help and get rid of any excess weight.
Get a wheel alignment check as well as if wheels are not tracked properly then this will be putting drag on your car (although toe angles will have to be out a lot to make any real effect).
Plan your journeys and choose roads that allow a higher constant speed and apparently 56mph is the most economical speed to drive a car at.

do not do the "stop and go" lay off the breaks .....do not tail get because you have to hit the breaks often, make sure the tires of inflated correctly with the right amount of air, LOVE your local repair shop .....go and make sure your car is properly maintained....oil changes and a clean filter will really help you out a long way....somebody told me that when you drive on the interstate and you have your windows down that the air that get in the car holds your car back......(am not to sure about that one)....but i know that the air conditior does eat up the gas ....geesh....am getting a bicycle.

Drive less. Drive slower and try to manage your trips.
When I go to work, try to do all on the way home so no extra use of the car. I walk to some stores now with the price of gas what it is

don't rev your engine, keep up with your tune-ups and regular maintenance....tailgate truckers on the interstate, make your car weight less, lose some weight yourself...buy a smaller vehicle with a smaller engine...buy a hybrid....
