Just when you think it's save to go back in the water.........I am glad they are catching Stinky-and co. before the are bombing more ****. Now let's see what they have planned for Independence day for we lovely Americans. There may be special fireworks for Stinky in Afghanistan of what ever cave he is hiding in. What a wonderful gift that would be!

I was there soon after stuff flared up with Nahr al-Bard. There were explosions every few nights. We quickly learned that no one goes out at night and all the shops close at night. The few times we did venture out my wife was rather jumpy. And really, you never do know where the next one will be. Not all the explosions are assassination attempts. You have to keep in mind that people have threatened to attack the Christain areas and the tourist areas. Where would you be staying? I mean seriously, you think you'd be well received in a Shia district?? We'd also loose power regularly, but most times, the generator where we were staying would kick on in a matter of minutes.
I probably wouldn't have gone to Lebanon during this time except that it was for business. I could have rescheduled, but it would have been at a major inconvenience for everyone else. So we checked our embassy's website regularly since things can unravel quickly in Lebanon, remember last summer? I took what they said to heart, stay out of the north and avoid crowds, vary your schedule and I still brought my family. Towards the end of our trip, our embassy did renew their travel warning for Lebanon, but did not issue an evacuation.
So if were to go now, since for us the travel warning has been issued, I'd try not to go. If I had to go now again for business, I'd look into if I could reschedule, even though it might be an inconvenience, whereas before, the travel warning hadn't been issued so I wasn't panicked.

It's not that dangerous, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's 'safe'. There are bombings. The assasinations are still going on. You don't know where the next bombing might take place. It's just a matter of luck, really :)
