That is called a total system restore - reformatting.
If your system came with an XP disk - you will use that. Insert the CD and reboot. There should be a prompt after your machine restarts to boot from the CD. Follow the directions.
If no CD - there is probably a partition on your hard drive with the reinstallation files. Restart - tap F10 at the black screen.

After recovery ....First go to windows update and do all the computer updates. Then add your antivirus program and update that and your spamware program and update that ....then you're done ....all other programs that you had installed since you purchased your computer will probably need re-installed again also ....these programs might still be in your folder called program files...to re-install them just open the file folder and click on the installation icon. Any passwords or product keys associated wtih those accounts will need to be re-input before they will work. Any pictures or persoanl files you had are lost unless you put them on disc before you allowed the computer to return to store bought status. To get to the point where you can obtain the computer to return to store bought status use system recovery ....look in your start up menu under accessories ...system tools...system restore and choose to do a complete recovery ....if that's not in your start up menu then it's located in an F key ....which one for your brand computer ?....You can figure it out by restarting the computer and hitting each F key (one each time ) while it is starting up....just start with F1 and tap it the whole time your computer starts .....and then do F2 and so forth until you get a screen that allows you to recover your system. (Then make a note of which F key worked in case you ever need to do it again).

Marco, Find the Original Windows XP Operating System Disc's that you got with your computer.
Read the Outside of them and you will want the one that says Windows XP Operating System.
When you put it in take your time and follow the step by step on screen choices. You want to Erase and Install.
This will erase everything and reinstall it just like brand new.
