Watch out looks like you'll have a walker on your hands very soon!! Why not get him something to walk around in until his back and legs are strong enough so he doesn't fall over all the time, try a walker or a toy he can push around.
Don't worry about the head thing. Babies are actually very resilant if he is only hitting head while trying to stand on his own his not going to do any long term damage.
Talk to your doctor or nurse so you can get the medical advice to feel more relaxed.
Hitting his head on things will also help him learn about his environment ie. where things are, how close to objects he is?
My 10mth old loved being on her feet at 6mths so I just had to make sure I was sitting next to her to catch her when I could. Yes I know this is very hard when u have heaps of other stuff to do or even other kids. Don't stress all is normal and before u know it he'll be running around u.

Have fun!!

He will be just fine. My son did the same thing and it is horrible to watch. Even when you are right there on the floor with him you can't always prevent it. That is why god gave them soft spots. Just remember 1 thing, a bump means the pressure is on the outside (that is good) a dent is bad because it means the pressure is on the inside.

I remember my little guy had what looked like devil horns on his head for almost 6 weeks when he was 7 months. Every time one bump would heal he would get another.

Next, climbing everywhere. Then jumping and missing his mark. When he develops more the bruises go from his head to his legs. Right now my guy (2 1/2) has 17 bruises on his legs. Daddy counted them with him last night. He plays hard and has no fear and never cries about a one of them.

Good luck.

Baby's have been falling for a long time. How many time have you heard of a baby becoming "retarded" from falling and bumping their heads? You said your home is baby proofed, if you have hard flooring maybe consider a soft rug for the area that he pulls up and plays most. Another idea is to keep him contained to a smaller area that you can have greater control over what he might bump his head on. I would skip the helmet. He is young and will get better at this as he practises. Just be cautious of the bigger bumps and bangs...watch for concussions.

Good luck!

It's very unlikely that he would hit his head hard enough to become brain damaged. He would have to fall from a higher distance, falling from his height will cause him some bumps and bruises, and yes, eventually he'll end up with a goose egg or two, but he won't be seriously hurt. Just be careful not to leave him unattended on furniture or tables, I know a lady who left her baby unattended on a laundry table at the laundromat, he did fall off and hit his head on the concrete. Thankfully he was fine.

If he can put himself in that position but doesn't like it when youthful put him in it then maybe he's just a bit stubborn? He wants to do it himself? My friends 8 month old is already cruising around the lounge, walking holding the sofa. Just shows babies develop at different rates and often boys are a little slower than girls Give him time and encouragement and he will get there

I can inform you that you and your little one have nothing to worry about. My neice was the same way when she began learning the walking movements. She is 4 now and is one of the smartest children I know. Children at that age usually only react if you react, unless they have severely hurt themselves. I wouldn't put too much worry on this, he is just learning how his legs work for him!

lol! Sorry- that's cute.

I used to call my son Magnet Head - he was always hitting his head. Anything in the room - if it fell, if he fell - always hit his head.

I am pretty sure he is OK - he is 4 and people tell me he speaks well for his age and he is pretty funny. I think you have to have a severe head trauma. You'll be OK!

well this is completely normal for a child around the age of yours to do. the soft spot in their head will help protect against brain damage and concussions. he will be fine!

as long as you have him on a carpet or some type of padding on the floor then i doubt that he'll go retarded from hitting his head
