If you mean the television ratings for the NBA then I guess the NBA would be better off because it would be more watched because the Lakers would actually be good. I don't think NBA itself(meaning the people at the League Office) really cares that much if another Western Conference team is good. They might just care if another team is good regardless of Confernce because it gets ratings to go up.

If you mean the NBA teams involved in the trade then it is good for the Lakers because they get KG. It is good for the T' Wolves because they are getting a lottery pick and/or young players like they want. The Pacers get either Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum or a fourth team that might get involved in the trade which rumors would say it's Boston might give the Pacers something. Boston(if they are in the trade) might get something from the Lakers or the Pacers.

If you mean the NBA players and teams on the whole then I guess it would be bad for the West teams during the season because they have to face the Lakers 4 times, wheras the East teams would not face them that many times. The only time an East team would worry about Lakers is in the playoffs if the Lakers would make to the Finals. It's so-so for the East teams because the don't have to face them as much but they still have to face the Lakers and if the Lakers make it to the Finals, an East team still has to beat them to win the playoffs.

If you just mean the people at the League Office, they really do not care that much unless like I explained earlier the ratings go up because it means more money for them.

Quick Summary

Good for ratings
Good for all teams involved in trade
Bad for West teams
So-So to the East teams
Doesn't Matter to League Office

If this deal goes through I can't see them being an automatic contender being that LA still has to deal with San Antonio, Dallas and Phoenix who have solid teams that have played together for years in the West. These teams have jelled well together and the players have built strong relationships with the coaches. Even though Phil Jackson is a great coach and Kobe is the greatest player in the league, it remains to be seen whether or not if Garnett can co-exist with them. Second they still need a point guard that can set the court up when needed. The Lakers will be good, but how good I wonder. It would be a scary team if they could keep Lamar Odom along with Kobe and Kevin. Now if Kobe went to the Magic the east would be back on top of the NBA.

It seems to be both.

It's good for:

> The eastern teams since Kg would still be in the West and would not be a threat for them in the playoffs. It's still the easy path in the east.

> The Lakers. Kobe and KG together. Enough said.

> Both Kobe and KG. A powerful 1-2 punch in the league. Both can help each other achieve the success that they are craving for(especially KG). Let's just hope that it doesn't end up like the Shaq-Kobe drama.

It's bad for:

>The West.....this trade would add another contender in the West. Not good for the current contenders.

> Timberwolves. They would lose their franchise player and receive nothing that compares to his worth.

> The NBA finals. The west would get even stronger and it would be even more predictable that whoever wins the west, wins it all. Another one-sided nba finals would be boring. It would not be that exciting if you were to know who will win it before they even play. It would be nice if the west and the east is balanced. It would be more interesting.

For the NBA? It would be good since KG and Kobe being together would attract media attention and that would mean more $$$$. But the fact that the west and the east is bound to get even more imbalanced is not good news.

If Kobe is willing to stay then it makes them a top 4 contender in the West. Along with Phoenix, Dallas & San Antonio.

However Kobe still wants out regardless of KG coming or not so my opinion is why doesn't the Wolves ask for Kobe in a trade & give the Lakers some garbage players like the ones being offered to them. Take Kobe off the Lakers & KG off the T-wolves & the T-wolves have the better role players. The Lakers have the better coach but why doesn't that deal go in reverse? That makes the t-wolves with KG, Kobe & a up & coming Randy Foye a contender immediately.

If the KG to the Lakers happen I would cheer for them. I'm a KG fan & he's been great to the T-wolves & the NBA in general & he deserves to get a ring with whoever can provide it to him & obviously the t-wolves aren't interested in surrounding him with talent enough to do this.

KG is always the MVP!!!!!

It would mean that the Lakers would be way way over the salary cap unless they dealt Kobe Bryant. The Lakers would be hard pressed to afford both Kobe and Garnett.

I don't think it would be inherently good or bad, but I think the public vastly overrates the impact. The Lakers tried this approach in '02 and it didn't work then with their team of supposed superstars. Basketball is a team sport and most of the players in the league, not to mention the fans, seem to forget this. Chemistry can make you or break you. (Think San Antonio Spurs here.)

if the Lakers sign KG, they have a small window to make something happen. KG does not want to be a part of a rebuilding franchise..... he wants to be part of a contender NOW! if he's smart, he'll have something in his contract that would cover his butt if Buss tries to send Kobe packing and leaves him in LA by himself.
i don't believe it's fixed. these GM's wheel and deal and some are smart enough to make good deals...and some aren't. Joe Dumars was applauded for what he did in Detroit...while Isaiah Thomas is still in the process of bring the entire Knick organization into a mudhole.
the lakers already pulled off a deal that had Shaq and Kobe on the same team, so why would it be foreign to have Kobe and KG on one team?
of course the power is in the West, and the league needs some sort of balance...but that's not KG's agenda. he just wants a shot at winning, and it happens to be that all teams capable of winning are in the west.

This could be all pre-planned. They will not trade Kobe, and get KG. Kobe is more likely to opt out in 2 years than to stay, so when he opts out, Buss will have a chance to build the team around Garnett. And if Kobe stays, that will be even better for Buss. The Lakers cannot blow this deal. A win-win situation for Dr. Buss.

I would be surprised to see that happen. The four team deal would screw the Celtics and the Pacers so I can't see them doing this as is right now. Great for the Lakers, bad for the other 3 teams overall.

Higher TV ratings for the Finals next year...because the Lakers would be in it.
