People who have part time jobs are really s.o.l. when they have jury duty. They theoretically can't be fired, but they lose their hourly pay and it can really be an economic hardship, can't it? I loved doing it now that I have a full time job and get pd. anyway, but when I used to be part time, I'd lose $100+ a day and get "paid" $12 for jury duty!! Then i was so mad when the case was a slip and fall. There I was being used and abused so someone could get rich quick for falling. Justice???
And no, I wouldn't want 12 morons deciding my case. I think a panel of judges would be just fine.

Jury duty is not a horror for part time workers because it can even help them prolong their jobs being in the jury. They have a valid reason to stay more in their jobs because being in the jury is a duty for the country itself helping the juduciary come up with the right, fair and just decision.
They usually choose unemployed people because they can give more time, focus and concentration on the case that they are facing and judging.

Jury duty pays sh**. It doesn't matter who you are. But this doesn't mean you can get off jury duty if you will lose a lot of money. They do not care about that and it is the jurors tough luck. You might get 12 morons, but they probably aren't poor morons.

If they did then having a job would be a reason to get out of jury duty......I have seen unemployed people, some are the accused........some are the lawyers

Serving on a jury is part of the responsibility of being a citizen. And every state has "hardship" provisions for people for whom it would be an undue burden.

As for the intelligence of jurors, don't judge everyone by yourself.

a panel of judges decided it was okay to segregate the races and discriminate against blacks...but be that as it may, jury duty is a civic responsibility and all citizens are required to be available to fulfill this duty as it is an extremely important one to our system of justice. you got a shitty slip and fall case...so what...do your duty and s t f u !...

If more unemployed people did it then it wouldn't be a true representation of a cross-section of society.
