Actually, she got a harsher sentence than the average for that particular offense. Normally, however, the rich get off easier.

I am not a fan of Paris Hilton, and I don't think she is above the law - and drunk driving is serious.

But, I understand, that few non-violent offenders serve more than 10% of their sentences in the overcrowded jails of LA. So, she is doing MORE time than the average person would for the same offence.

She shoud have received exactly the same treatment as anyone else in her position. If the prisons are overcrowded, then the correctional agency needs to address the problem - finding alternatives, like making drunk drivers work in facilities for those who have been injured in serious car accidents, or hearing from surviving relatives.

Here's the thing, we all follow the story so closely that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. The fact is that Paris cost 10 x what a normal inmate cost, she had people protesting outside the jail the entire time, not to mention the scrutinzing press following around every official for comment. This wasn't a normal case, and given that the judge could have just given her community service, I think it was fair. Do you honesly think that any good looking, 20 something young girl would have gotten anything different?

I don't care for Paris Hilton, but I do agree that her punishment was a little harsher than normal. I know so many who do the same thing she did, but don't actually get jail time until they have been caught driving 8 or 9 times, or at least get another D.U.I.

Money buys you justice. If you can afford to pay for it, you can get the best legal defense team in the country and get off scot free. See OJ simpson for the best example. This is not the only example. This sort of thing happens every day, but you just don't hear about it.

Just because you're in jail doesn't mean you're not entitled to some sort of personal protection. What do you think would have happened to her if she had been placed in the general population?

You were b*tching several weeks ago because she wasn't in jail, then she was incarcirated; now you're b*tching because you think she was treated differently. What do you want---blood?

Life is not fair.

Yes, people are treated differently when they have celebrity, money, or both.

Look at OJ. Money essentially paid for 2 homicides.
