From modern actors, it would have to be Geoffrey Rush cause of his ability to be able to transform for any role that he is in. He has great diversity in the characters that he has played. I will admit that he hasn't always been in the best films, but he seems to stand out even in the crappy films.
From classic actors, I would say Orson Welles, his presents in films was magnificent. The entrance that he makes in "The Third Man" has never been repeated in other films, and Citizen Kane is a classic film and he was fantastic in that.
If i had to choose female actors, I would have to choose between Cate Blanchett or Kate Winslet as this generations great leading ladies who also show great diversity in the roles that they tackle.

My favorite actor is John Wayne. I know there are many better actors, and I like quite a few of them, but no one had the screen persona that the Duke had. He wasn't a terrible actor, not exactly handsome and had a drawl, but he carried himself like a man should. And his characters were strong, decisive and, believe it or not, quite sensitive. In his personal life, he was a guy who stood by his convictions. He loved his country and those who fought for her and so do I.

I like Nicholas Cage, because all the movies he has been in I thoroughly enjoyed. I also like Samuel L. Jackson, because he is just plain cool and a veteran actor. Will Smith too, because the Pursuit of Happyness was excellent and I love all his other movies.

Men (no order):
Denzel Washington
Tom Hanks
Robert DeNiro
John Travolta
Al Pacino
Kevin Costner
Nicholas Cage
Reason: They always seem to pick very different roles and try new things. Plus, they typically stay out of controversy.
Women (no order):
Reese Witherspoon
Angelina Jolie
Halle Berry
Gabrielle Union
Selma Hayak
Susan Sarandon
Sally Field
Reason: Same as the guys - they pick very different and difficult roles and they stay out of trouble so they are good role models as well. Plus, several are working moms.

I greatly admire Paul Reubens and Johnny Depp.
I enjoy watching Paul Reubens in all of his roles in movies and TV shows including Pee-wee. In my opinion, Paul is so hot.
Johnny Depp's roles in movies are so spectacular. Johnny has a very cute face.

Katherine Hepburn.
The epitome of grace, style, talent and independence. Forward thinking, happy, successful .. self-reliant. And to top it all off, she was a stunner ;)

Gary Oldman. You forget it's him you are watching and instead, concentrate on the character he is portraying.
