Because we have laws that should have been put into use and haven't been. Why have laws if they're simply ignored?

Why do our borders continue to remain open if terrorists are the enemy? Why do we have known criminals and gang members (immigrants), not being shipped back? Why is it that our own representatives are voting against their own constituents?

What the hell is going on behind closed doors, that we, the voters are not privy to?

I think that the negativity stems from disappointment. The illegal immigration situation blew up into a monstrous problem...simply because the government was not doing its job. First disappointment. Then they decided to make it a priority, and create an action plan to solve the problem. What they came back with, however, is an ineffective plan that does not solve or prevent the growth of the problem. Second disappointment.

Americans need to reconcile with the fact that there is much hypocricy regarding the issue itself...with illegal hirings and exceptions offered for sentimental reasons. A true solution will be harsh, and should include punishment for those Americans who have broken the law by hiring illegals knowingly. But I don't see that happening...so I don't see the problem going away...

Because it is toilet paper just like the Patriot Act and the Military Act. The Immigration Bill doesn't do anything to solve the problems.

Repubs and Libs alike feel in part that the initiative is bad because security issues are projected as futile and impotent when a Mexican can come over the border with whatever they can carry..is one reason

the suspicion that the federal gov't doesn't have the ability to
enforce what is mandated in the law or has the desire to either.

some are flat-out racist.. and some are worried about the revenues that they consume in social services..

it isn't a one-sentence answer,.
hell some Repubs want it smacked down because Ted Kennedy's name is behind it.

We don't want amnesty of any kind for illegals. We want them out of our country. We are going to put any politician who votes for anything but enforcing immigration laws on the unemployment line.
