Oh. I'm English, so I have never been to a dentist. Obviously.

Why does being english have anything to do with not going to the dentist? I'm english and have only been a couple of times and my teeth are fine. You can trust me on that :P

I think they come here.

Okay, now the real answer. My sister is a dental hygienist, so I can speak with some authority.

A lot of the actual prep work is done by assistants. My sister my spend 40-45 minutes cleaning someone's teeth and it might take 10 minutes to take x-rays. The dentist will review the x-rays and check for cavities. The dentist might actually put the filling in, but he has an assistant to prepare the filling compound.

With all the assistants helping him, he can chat in the hall, see other patients and make more $$$ or given directions to his (or her) staff.

Or, they can come here and answer questions.

Dentists are freaks of nature... very pervy & kinky. When they leave the room, they are going to a secret room that has a peep hole. They peep through the peep hole at the patients as they are spitting and rinsing. Dentists love this.... They are usually pulling one off as they are peeping.

He best be gone to get another canister of that wacky gas for me..

I would just as soon have open heart surgery, without wacky gas, than to hear the sound of that drill.....

When I was a small child, the dentist began to drill into my tooth... ..yeah..I felt it-- all the way to my toes....
Just one of those things you never forget..

They go into their office and answer a few questions on Yahoo!Answers. Then they check their instruction manual to see what happens to the patient next before returning.
