Sunday night a 13 year old girl went into our local shops. She stood in the queue with a pint of milk. A Somalian women pushed in front of her. The girl tapped the woman on the shoulder and pointed out to her that she had pushed in the queue. The woman turned and spat in the girls face.

The girl, who lives a few doors down from the shop ran home crying, her brother (in his mid 20s) went back into the shop just as the woman came out. He challenged the woman and asked her why she felt the need to spit in a childs face. In the meantime the shop owners had called the police. The police came within minutes and went after the man for challenging the woman.

The woman got off free.

What are peoples opinions on this type of thing? i'm actually on the fence as it is hard to question peoples motivations.

that was disgusting!! spitting is vile. Saliva can carry communicable diseases and without a doubt the police should have arrested her. If I was this girls family I would not let this rest.

The motivation for spitting is irrelevant, it is NOT done, I find spitting on the street disgusting.

Unfortunately it is becoming all too familar that the police are not using the same standards in regards to everyone, and I say this as a black woman. Whether the somalian woman was being racist or just damn ignorant I can't say, but she did assault this young girl. If that had been my daughter, I would have slapped the woman in her face so hard, I would be happy to do my time, or take the fine.

Surely, it is the act that matters and not the underlying motivation. The woman pushed in, probably deliberately, and then spat in the childs face when rightly confronted. The brother had no chance with the Police, because he was the wrong sex and the wrong colour. The Somalian woman should have been arrested for assault. I don't understand why you are on the fence about this.

Spitting at someone is an assault, in English law. The woman should have been prosecuted.

Although it would help if there witness's, presumably the little girl could have provided some of the spit for DNA profiling, but I suppose that would be too much trouble for the police.

Did the shop have CCTV? If so, the evidence should be presented to the police.

I think the man was right to ask this woman why she had spat in his sisters face.

Spitting is vile, especially in someones face!

The woman should of had to go off with the police not this girls brother. He didn't do anything wrong!

I think the problem now is that 'racism' is such a 'delicate' subject that, maybe the police were frightened to take this woman?

What if the woman had been white, would she have been taken then?

If this is actually an accurate story, then the woman is at fault. However, the shop owner probably didn't see the spitting incident. What they saw was a man coming into the store and challenging a woman, making her appear to be the victim. It's all about perception.

THE POLICE always hookin up the good guys instead of the bad guys.
well what the brother did was right!
what the woman did to the gal was wrong as well as the police their job is to interrogate which they didn't do at all and went after the brother instead of the woman.
and lastly the woman is a racist !! no doubt about it and the police as well b'coz when they reached the scenario they saw the guy making a move against the woman i guess dats what made them think that the guy was the culprit instead of the woman..

Back in early March I was spat in the face by a man who had attacked a security guard in a local store! I called the police and reported the registration of the car in which the attacker was a passenger! He was arrested 30 mins later...........

On Wednesday June 20th the assailant was in court (for the fifth time after pleading not guilty) I was called as a witness for his attack on me. He changed his plea to guilty and was sentence for 18 months for the offence plus a futher 18 months for the assault on the security guard!

The police should have been called right after the woman spat in the child's face. That is a form of assault.

I have 2 children and I am sorry but If I found out an Adult spit in my kids face first I would be wondering who is the child and secent the police probley would have to hog tye me because that lady is going down. I can not tolerate Adults that act like children and are disrespectfull. Big no no makes me wonder what kind of person raised them.

Regardless of the woman's race she should never have spat in the young girl's face! And the police should be dealing with her, but they should also explain to the brother that it is not his place to challenge her.
