The host may have been being nice wanting to help your friend. Although, let the parent of the child decide that. If the parent is uncomfortable then let the parent although, I think the host is just trying to be a good host and let your friend enjoy the reception.

At 10 years old, the boy sould be ok getting to bed by himself so long as he say goodnight. If this is not the case, then the parent or special guardian should do so. If he is ok, then there is no problemo, amigo!
Don't let the bed bugs bite!

At that age I hope he can put himself to bed. The hostess should take the mother and son to where he will be able to get ready for bed, and then he can excuse himself when it's time, his mother will already know where he will be, and she can check on him before she retires.

I don't think it's a big deal, so long as he is in bed safely. Have a good day.
