I would want the best players in the game since World Series Home Field advantage at stake.

No. Since MLB has decided that the game is going to decide home field advantage in the WS, there is no way that every team should be represented. It should be the best players from both leagues, that way the AL isn't stuck with some bum from KC at the plate with home field on the line!!!

Yes, every team should have at least 1 player represented.

And this whole "this time it counts" is nothing but a crock of BS!!!

I remember back in the day (gosh as recently as 10 years ago) that all the starters went 3 innings, then the managers played all the others so they could play in the game.

The All Star Game used to be about bragging rights...which league is better (again, back in the day the NL had dominance over the AL and the NL always considered it self "the senior circuit").

But with inter-league play, and free agency moving players around like a hot potatoe, the ASG is at a point where I dont even care any more.
I've quit watching it. Although I did watch in 2005 (because it was in Detroit) and I will probably watch this year as JIm Leyland is managing.

Thanks to Bud Selig and Donald Fehr, they are driving fans away (at least, in my opinion, all the old school fans) instead of bringing them together.

The All-Star game is for the fans and should remain for the fans. Having each team represented is the way it should stay so that every fan has someone to root for. The thing with it determining home field advantage for the Series is one of the dumbest decisions ever and Selig should be raked over the coals for enacting it. I hope that gets changed.

I dont think every team should be represented. Only the best of the best should go. That is why we vote now. Now that the All Star game has more meaning, the best players really need to be there. I know some teams think it isnt fair unless each team is represented but, it really should just be the best players at each position.

I think every team should have at least one player represent the team. like they have set up...but I don't think the starters should be starting just because they got voted in by the fans. I think the votes should account for 25% percent, and the managers should decide who starts, based on performance and statistics. It's good for the fans that there is at least one player from each team. If the team I rooted for was having a horrible season, I'd hope to see at least one of my players on that team make the all star squad. Every team in the MLB has an all-star.

The All Star game is a show. It doesn't (or SHOULDN'T) count for anything, so, yes, every team should be represented. Why should fans of small market teams even be interested if their players aren't in it? As a game, it's the least interesting of the year and, except for the dumb idea of who hosts the World Series, less important than any spring training game as well.

Every team should have at least one representative... cut and dried... bottom line... and all that stuff.
Just because a team isn't doing well in the standings is no reason not to have at least one player in the All Star game.
The rule was brought in... what... 40 years ago? I like it.

League rule, every team is represented in the all-star game. The fans select the starting team and the manager fills out his roster which must include a player from every team in his league. I agree that every team should be represented, it is good for the game and for fans of every team to have someone to pull for. In addition, the manager will always try to have everyone play, and I like that as well.

I agree. I don't like restrictions put on things like that. Also, there should be more objectivity in thw voting process. I'm not sure the best answer for what that is, whether it is to weight the player's/manager's vote higher and the fan lower. Or maybe set up (I know I'll get killed for this comment) a BCS type rating system for each position based on stats to help pick the players. Just some random thopughts this am.

Soon they will make a rule every player has to bat just like little league, is this professional baseball or amatuer?? Send the best 24 players for each League and play 9 inning (or more), let the best team win. Its all about making each market happy...its all $$ and nothing else, its not about an All-star game, name me one thing about the game that doesnt have a corporate sponsor!
