If there are 194 countries in the world, why do only a handful have permanent veto power in the UN? - China, Russia, USA, United Kingdom, France.

Reflection of the international power dynamic in 1945. US, UK, France, China, Russia were the major victorious powers in World War 2. Germany and Japan lost. India wasn't independent yet. Other countries like Brazil were not politically or economically powerful yet. So the winners got to draft the UN Charter.

Yes that is true! I think they were the major powers, and the US and GB wrote most of the charter! It was the United States Idea after WW II and all you mentioned were major players at the time, with perhaps the exception of China, who they needed!

That is why Bush Never went to the UN Security Council, as required by the UN Charter, to get approval to attack Iraq. Only the Security Council can issue that order, but to attack a country who has not attacked you is prohibited by International Law!

Bush drew up the Resolution, but knew that Russia, France and China was going to Veto any attack on Iraq!

Russia and France at that time had taken away 3 large oil contracts from Iraq from US companies. That was why we had the damn war! Iraq shut us off!

To encourage those countries to feel resentful, and to build WMD so they can compete. Then the big guys get all upset and say "What did we do?"
