Troy, in the tenth year of the Trojan war. The Greeks were fed up with fighting to get into Troy so Odysseus came up with a cunning plan. They built a great big wooden horse that was hollow inside, and the best Greek soldiers climbed on in and hid.
The Greeks sailed their ships away out of sight to pretend that they had left, and make the Trojans think they had won, and they left the horse outside the gates of Troy, alomg with a bloke called Sinon. The Trojans came out and saw the horse, and wondered what it was. Some people said they should burn it, but Sinon said the Greeks had left it as a gift to honour the Trojans, who were well-known as great horse tamers. He claimed he had been left as a sacrifice.
Priam, king of Troy, decided to bring the horse into the city, and as it was so big, they needed to knock down parts of the great walls to get it in. Once they had, they set it in the centre of Troy and partied all night. Only Helen was suspicious, and she went round the horse calling to the Greek soldiers, imitating the voices of their wives. One Greek soldier was so tempting to get out that the others had to kill him to save themselves from being found out.
Eventually, the Trojans partied themselves out and went home drunkenly to bed, and now the Greeks could make their move. They slipped silently out of the horse and opened the gates of Troy, so that the rest of their forces - who had sailes back and approached the city - could enter. Then they proceeded to kill everyone and burn the city.

The ancient city of Troy and the Trojan war.
"The original trojan horse was built by Odysseus, the King of Ithica, during the legendary Trojan Wars. The Greeks were losing the siege of the city of Troy. Odysseus had a large wooden horse built and left as a "gift" outside the walls of the city of Troy. He then ordered the Greek army to sail away.
The Trojans believed the horse to be a peace offering from Odysseus. Instead, the horse was filled with Greek warriors, including Odysseus and Menelaus. As the Trojans slept, the Greek army sailed back to Troy and the soldiers hiding in the wooden horse snuck out and opened the gates of the city for them."
